Distilled water can be given to smaller pets, such as cats or small dogs although many prefer to add minerals too. Bigger animals can consume distilled water BUT they need more minerals in their bodies, which they might not get from dog chow alone and for this reason you’ll need to add minerals to distilled water. Cats, on the other hand, can get water crystals in their bladder if they drink mineral based water. So, better to give cats Distilled Water otherwise mineralized water may lead to urinary tract infections, which will cost a bundle to treat by a veterinarian. Instead, giving cats distilled water may help keep their bladder clean and free from infectious germs entering their urinary tract (note, it helps, it doesn’t mean it will prevent). Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t give them milk (although some research suggests cats are intolerant to milk). Just give them a moderate amount of distilled water a few times a week to make sure they are staying healthy inside.
When it comes to dogs, the Maltese breed is the best for giving distilled water to. Distilled water can help relieve Maltese dogs from having tear ducts that are too runny. If you have ever owned a Maltese, you will notice they tend to tear up very easily. This could result in tear stains on your carpet. Like the cats, it can also help prevent urinary tract infections in them as well. You can contact your veterinarian and see how much distilled water is recommended for your particular pet. Sometimes a vet will actually encourage distilled water for your pet if they already have a preexisting infection or a high chance of obtaining a new one.
But, you have to remember that an animal’s body is different than a human body. They don’t receive their required minerals and vitamins from fruits and vegetables the same way humans do. Animals need to get their minerals from drinking Mineralized Distilled Water or else they could eventually get immune system dysfunction. Distilled Water for Pets is safe always as long as it has been Mineralized otherwise, you may have to alternate the amount of times you give your pet distilled water without minerals. If you are trying to cure them of an infection, then listen to what your veterinarian recommends. If you are just taking preventative action, then give your pet distilled water only a few times per week, or just add minerals and your pet can drink it always. A couple of times a week worth of Pure Distilled Water (that is, without the minerals added) is just enough to clean their systems out of all germs before they grow into an infection.
Distilled water can also be a helpful component for when building a fish tank. Even though fish need mineral filled water in order to survive, they also need water that is free of impurities and toxins. Since regular tap water is getting more polluted with impurities, this means it could harm the fish just as easily as water without minerals. The idea is that you first fill your fish tank with distilled water to make sure you have no impurities, and then you add minerals to distilled water before you put in the fish. That way you will have clean water with minerals and no impurities.
