Why distilled water is still the best choice for your body

September 24, 2013 By DistilledWaterAssociation

Though many health conservatives have strongly denied the health benefits of distilled water to your body, many health experts still believe that distilled water is still the best type of fluid to hydrate your body. This is mainly because of the dangers lurking in the US water system today, with the US Government actually having no solid overview of what microbes and other elements are contained in the tap water.

Even with the passing of Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974, its further amendments and the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency to impose limitations on the contaminants present in the US water system, a lot of states violate the Act at certain levels, and no state would have passed the water check purely. In 2009, EPA even warned an “increased threat to drinking tap water” stating also “we can no longer take our drinking water for granted.” Then in 2012, several studies conducted by the Environmental Working Group have confirmed the presence of chromium-6, known to cause lung cancer when ingested, in the water supplies of over thirty five cities in US.

Thus, movements and alternative options to providing water free from hazardous elements have been sought – the simplest of which is drinking distilled water. This type of water is known for its “pure” quality, having no microbes. However, left wing health experts have labeled distilled water as unsafe and dangerous to one’s health. Distilled water no longer contains the good minerals such as calcium and sodium that our body needs. Likewise, the total pure state of distilled water makes it an active absorber of carbon dioxide in the air when evaporated, which increases the acidity – However this acidity is not harmful, and there are plenty of other fluids, such as lemonade and orange juice, which are more acidic than distilled water.

However, for those who still do not believe scientific fact and would like to be sure the water is not acidic, simply add minerals to your water. There are specially formulated fluids which contain packed amounts of minerals and vitamins and a single drop in the distilled water can make a huge difference.

Distilled Water: Not Just for Human Consumption

September 23, 2013 By DistilledWaterAssociation

How important distilled water is in our lives? For many years now, we constantly see on TV and stores around us about this kind of water, but we always recognize it as a healthy form of water to be drunk. It’s clean, free from most impurities. As a matter of fact, there are other unfamiliar or less commonly advertised ways of using this water.

What is distilled water? The water undergoes a process called distillation in which the water is boiled till vapor forms inside the container. Then the vapor condenses or turns into water again. But at that stage, the water is now free from most unhealthy impurities; bacteria, fungi, parasites, and pesticide that can cause diseases such as diarrhea.

Surprisingly, it is not only the human body that can benefit from distilled water. This water is believed to be beneficial for other purposes as well. First, it is a better kind of water than tap water to be used in vehicles. As we all know, vehicles use water in order to avoid overheating of the battery while it is being charged. If tap water is used, the battery will not stay longer because of the presence of harmful ions. However, water that undergoes distillation removes every kind of ions, making distilled water better and more practical for longevity of those expensive batteries. Moreover, it prolongs the lifespan of cooling systems and engines of vehicles. The ions and minerals found in tap water can increase the corrosion of metal parts. Since the water that undergoes distillation completely removes the harmful ions and minerals, it is highly beneficial to be used in vehicles.

Airplanes also can significantly benefit from distilled water as it helps increase the air density during hot conditions. If the air density is lower than the desired amount, it can cause longer takeoff run and climbing and, therefore, airplanes produce lower power than during cold days. There are many accidents that happened due to low air density.

You may be surprised to know that fish also need distilled water; the fish that are in aquariums. There is a common misconception that the tap water is equally good with this purified water to be used in an aquarium. Water in rivers and lakes where fish live has different water composition from tap water, which contains compositions and particles that are harmful to fish. It’s no wonder that some who put tap water in their aquariums were shocked to find out days after that the fish died.

What’s more, distilled water is used in the machine called Constant Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). This is used for people who have sleep apnea or those whose breathing pauses or becomes infrequent when they are asleep. The said machine helps them attain normal breathing through moistening or humidifying the air that enters the nose. Water that undergoes the distillation does not leave impurities in the machine.

All in all, distilled water is not only beneficial to humans, but also there are many other applications that use this purified water.

Distilled Water: Its multiple use other than your drinking water

September 23, 2013 By DistilledWaterAssociation

Though almost 75% of our world is covered in water, most of it is useless, if not unsafe, for a lot of practical uses in many aspects of life. Most automotive and pharmaceutical activities in need of water require only the hydrogen and oxygen forming the solvent, and no other impurities or chemicals mixed with it. Distilled water best fits the job since it contains no impurities at all, and thus presents the best possible pure water that can be used. Besides your usual drinking fluid, distilled water can be used on a variety of things due to its qualities. Below are some of the most important uses of this type of water.

Automotive Uses

The most important quality of distilled water is its lack of impurities and thus is essential to automotive maintenance, such as on cars and ships. One of the main uses of this type of water is to act as a cooling agent to car and ship engines. Using plain water as engine coolant usually results to galvanic corrosion. This is since impurities in the water can cause electrolytic imbalance with the metal engine, which promotes corrosion. To further make distilled water safer, a subtle amount of alcohol is added for better cleansing. Likewise, distilled water is essential in replenishing the fluid on lead acid batteries, which are used in vehicles. Plain tap water contains a lot of ions that could cause damage to the battery and eventually shortening its lifespan. Since distilled water contains no impurities at all, it is the ideal water to be used for this kind of battery.

Pharmaceutical Uses

When dealing surgical procedures or body detoxification, it is important to make use of the purest type of water in order to not contaminate the individual’s wellbeing with the presence of impurities. Besides a good drinking fluid for the body, distilled water is also best used when cleansing the skin as it is devoid of the usual hazardous elements present in tap water. Impurities could cause spoilage of fair skin, and even cleaning open wounds. This is also the same when using it for surgical means. Double distilled water, or water having gone through the distillation process twice, is used in cleaning equipments for surgery. It is also the water used when cleansing internal parts of the human body. Using plain tap water is simply very dangerous as it can contain toxic elements that could lead to infections.

Other Uses

Distilled water is also used on other uses, mainly due to its purity against other substances. In organic farming, this type of fluid is ideal in providing plants the water they need. Distilled water is also used in the manufacturing of the different drinks to ascertain a high level of quality products in terms of taste and purity. It has also been noted that fishes maintained in an aquarium of distilled water tend to be more active and lives a longer period of time.

Though distilled water offers a lot of uses and advantages, it is very much easy to make and can be simply done using only home materials.

Myths Associated with Drinking Distilled Water

September 22, 2013 By DistilledWaterAssociation

There are a lot of myths associated with drinking distilled water. These myths are causing problems to the people because it is creating negative views to the intake of distilled drinking water. Here are some of the common myths about distilled water and the explanations to these myths.

Distilled water is said to remove organic minerals outside the body. This is actually a baseless claim because distilled drinking water is still a form of water, as a matter of fact, the purest. Water brings the minerals to the cells and tissues, and they only reject inorganic minerals. It simply means that distilled water does not flush any organic materials since it has the same composition as any type of water. The only difference is that it does not have any chemicals and other contaminants.

Another myth is that the distilled water is dangerous because it easily becomes acidic. There is a slight acidity in distilled drinking water, but it is natural. As a matter of fact, it won’t even have any effect on your body. It is quite close to a neutral PH so it is not dangerous and it won’t have any negative effects to your body. It is the purest type of water, so it is neither beneficial nor damaging. There are many drinks, such as lemonade and orange juice, which are much more acidic than distilled water.

Alkaline water is better than distilled water. This is another myth because drinking distilled and alkaline water is almost the same. As a matter of fact, it is even safer to drink distilled water in the long run compared with alkaline water. Drinking alkaline water for a long time may cause disturbances in your gastrointestinal tract because it neutralizes the stomach acids. It is still better to drink distilled water in the long run because it does not post any threats to your health.

Distilled water is considered as dead water since even fishes won’t survive in this kind of water. This is actually common sense because fishes don’t live in just any type of water. Fish needs plankton and other living organisms that live through inorganic minerals. Distilled drinking water doesn’t have any type of inorganic minerals, and it is pure water so fishes won’t survive in distilled water. Well, you can’t really say that a type of water is dead just because a fish or a living organism does not survive in it.

Distilled water takes out beneficial minerals. Basically, all the minerals are removed from the water including organic and inorganic minerals. These beneficial minerals are usually in an inorganic form. It means that even if you leave them in the water, the body will not consider it as beneficial minerals. Minerals and vitamins are supposed to be taken through other means. You do not have worry about vitamins and minerals from water because the amount that they have is not even sufficient to help your body.

You need to pay attention to these myths and understand the truth about them especially if you are planning to drink distilled water.

Known Health Benefits of Drinking Distilled Water

September 22, 2013 By DistilledWaterAssociation

A lot of people are usually comparing tap water and distilled water. Some of them believe that the tap water is still the best drinking water because of the helpful chemicals that it contains while some people think that drinking distilled water is beneficial because it is the purest form of water without any chemicals and contaminants. How can you say that distilled water is really beneficial and what are the possible health benefits that you can obtain by drinking it?

Distilled water is free from various contaminants that are usually found in the water. It is true that the tap water contains vitamins and minerals, but there are also contaminants that are not easily removed by water treatment.  This is the reason why drinking distilled drinking water has more health benefits than drinking tap water. Though it does not literally provide you with any health benefits, it helps promote a healthy living since it prevents any contaminants from causing damage and problems to your body. You can also add minerals and vitamins in distilled water at a small price, giving distilled water drinkers the best of both worlds: Pure water with Vitamins and Minerals.

Distilled water is also free from chlorine. As we all know, water treatment involves the use of chlorine in the drinking water. Chlorine helps prevent the growth of bacteria in the water, but taking excessive amounts of chlorine can cause a lot of negative problems in the body. You have to remember that the amount of chlorine placed on tap water differs depending on the location and some companies put high concentrations of chlorine to their drinking water, which is not a good thing. Distilled water prevents any problems caused by chlorine because it does not have any form of chemicals.

Distilled water can also prevent the formation of kidney stones. Tap water and bottled water often have added calcium. It is a very important mineral to the body, but you have to remember that too much calcium can lead to kidney stone formation. Since distilled water doesn’t have any minerals, chemicals or contaminants, you can easily prevent the formation of kidney stone.

Aside from chlorine, tap water also contains fluoride. This kind of mineral is not found on distilled water. While fluoride is beneficial to the body, excessive intake of this mineral can cause enamel fluorosis. It can cause mottling and discoloration of the permanent teeth.

As you can see, most of the health benefits of distilled water are focused on prevention because it does not have any chemicals, contaminants or minerals. It is the purest form of water so it will not provide any vitamins and minerals to the body, but it can prevent possible problems of excessive consumption of these minerals. Basically, the choice still depends on the person whether they prefer tap water or distilled water. Both have their own set of benefits, so you need to know about this before making a decision.
