How to Make Safe and Pure Distilled Water at Home

February 20, 2023 By DistilledWaterAssociation

Distilled water is one of the purest forms of water available, and it can be made easily at home. Unlike tap water, which may contain minerals, chemicals, and other contaminants, distilled water has had all impurities removed, leaving behind pure H2O. In this article, we will discuss how to make safe and pure distilled water at home.

What is distilled water?

Distilled water is created by boiling water and then collecting the steam as it cools and condenses back into liquid form. This process removes any impurities, leaving behind pure water that is free of minerals, bacteria, and other contaminants. The resulting distilled water is safe to use for drinking, cooking, and other applications where pure water is required.

Why make distilled water at home?

There are several reasons why you might want to make distilled water at home. First and foremost, it is a safer and purer option than tap water. It is also free from the chemicals and impurities that can be found in bottled water. In addition, making your own distilled water at home can save you money in the long run, especially if you consume a lot of water.

How to make distilled water at home

To make distilled water at home, you will need a few items:

A large pot with a lid

A heat-resistant glass bowl that fits inside the pot

Ice

A source of heat (such as a stove)

Follow these steps to make distilled water:

Fill the pot with water and place the heat-resistant glass bowl inside, making sure it floats on top of the water.

Put the lid on the pot upside down, with the handle facing downwards.

Turn on the heat and bring the water to a boil.

Place ice on top of the lid to help the steam condense back into liquid form.

As the water boils, the steam will rise and hit the cold lid. The steam will then condense and drip into the heat-resistant glass bowl.

After 30 minutes or so, turn off the heat and remove the glass bowl from the pot. You should now have a container of distilled water.

Remember to let the water cool before using it for drinking or cooking.

In conclusion, making your own distilled water at home is a safe, easy, and cost-effective way to ensure that you have access to pure water. While it is not necessary for everyone to make their own distilled water, it can be a great option for those who are concerned about the safety and purity of their drinking water.
